I take good care to take good care of myself. Wow!, That sounds intelligent. It is, however, quite true. If a cat doesn't groom itself properly then such care is left to humans - and that can be risky. Look after your health My best friend, Cathie, does all the routine medical stuff like arranging v*t appointments to ensure that the preventative healthcare side of my life is in order, and I consider that to be a very satisfactory situation. It means that I can get on with all the much less routine famous stuff without fear of having illness strike one down at inopportune moments. When I was residing in England we often went to the v*t and I was never pleased when this was necessary. It would have been much more convenient if the v*t had visited me at home and did what needed to be done when I was in one of my sleeping phases - a quite frequent occurrence for all sensible cats - instead of which I always had to travel by car to surgeries where I could smell other cats and - even worse - D*GS!, and goodness knows what else besides. Why cannot humans organise a home visit surgery just for famous cats like me? I suspect that there are such places but that cheapskate Mr. B. would probably veto such expense. (Mr. B. says "Yup!") Even with the most careful precautions a cat is vulnerable to illness and disease and my best friend Forby experienced just this problem. So intent was Forby on providing me with the best lifeskills tuition possible, he allowed no time for routine preventative healthcare and, sadly, succumbed to a most dreadful disease - metastatic lymphosarcoma. No amount of care could save him once that had been diagnosed. It was a tragedy that could not be foreseen and his death devastated me for quite a while. It did, however, teach me a lesson which I have never forgotten, viz: Take care of yourself, in case others, by some mischance, neglect to do it for you. Thank you, Forby, for teaching me that difficult lesson. What a magnificent cat he was! |
